ViaStone expanded clay aggregate media is an incredibly resourceful growing material derived from kiln firing clay to over 2,000 degrees and forming it into the round inert and highly porous grow media that is so popular. Clay itself is renewable and plentiful, making ViaStone ecologically friendly. Use ViaStone virtually anywhere: the greenhouse, in propagation systems, for outdoor gardening, around shrubs & trees, as compost aeration, or as a hydroponic growing medium. Expanded clay grow rocks are the most widely used hydroponic media in North America.

• How do you use Viastone? Is it used like mulch or more like bone meal when cultivating plants? I would like to try some on my shrubs and flowers, but since I don't know what Viastone's limits and applications are its very hard for me to visualize what results should be expected. Is it used in the soil or on top of the soil or underneath supporting existing growth medium?
  Viastone Expanded Clay Rocks can be used several ways. The most common practice is to use them as a hydroponic medium to hold up and support the plan while the hydroponic fertilizer solution feeds the plant. The second application would be to use the hydroponic grow rocks in conjunction with your soil to help aerate and bring oxygen to the roots. Viastone has no nutritional value, so be sure to use it in conjunction with your bone meal, fertilizer, etc.
