Q) I have never used a timer before , I have my ballast plugged in the timer and my fan plug in on the other side. The light and fan are set to come on at 8am and go off at 2am. It is 7pm. I plugged the timer in the power box, the light and fan came on. When will the light and fan go off? Also the pointer is set at 1. Do I have to plug the timer in at 8am in order for the timer to work?
A) So, first thing when using these timers is to make sure the red button on the side of the timer is in the up position. This will activate the timer. If the red button is in the down position, whatever is plugged into the timer will just be on, as if you plugged it straight into the outlet. If your timer is set to come on at 8am and off at 2am, the light and fan will be on at 1pm and 1am. The timer should cut off both devices at 2am. Another point about these timers is that each pin represents a 15 minute increment. You have to make sure the pins are pushed down to turn the timer on and left up to turn the timer off. Hope this helps.
