Q) I am a member of the Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Association and we are looking for an accurate way to test gardener soil samples at Farmers Markets. We currently use pH test strips and the accuracy is being questioned. Also the test strips pH range is 5 to 7 and some soil samples are in a higher range. Question - Can your instrument be calibrated using laboratory pH solution(s). also, would appreciate more detailed information on the instrument
A) The meter you are asking about is factory calibrated and does not need calibration beyond that. It can not be calibrated using any type of solution. Any attempt to disassemble will void the warranty. It is important to clean the three metal bands at the base of the probe before each reading is taken. Also it is recommended that the soil sample be moist for 25-30 minutes before testing. The range of pH this meter is capable of reading is: 3.0-8.0; the accuracy is + or – 0.2 pH.

I hope that is helpful.
