Q) Can this unit be used without exhausting inside grow room Co2 enriched Air ? And if the unit is inside the room with intake and exhaust sealed out of the room will It exhaust any of the Smell ?
A) Though the air may not be completely exchanged using this unit, it is safe to say that some co2 will be lost. If you are running co2, be sure to run the AC unit 30 minutes to an hour after the co2 is injected. No room odor will be filtered as the AC unit does not have a charcoal filter. It is best to have an independent carbon filter running to take care of odor issues.
Q) I want a truly sealed grow room , these AC units seem like they would be an energy pig , because they are drawing outside air and then exhausting the precious already cooled air . Am I right about this?
My room is 11' x 11’ and sealed airtight. I tried a similar unit with only 1 exhaust port and it did nothing but create a vacuum in the room so strong that you could see the window sucking into the room, and then of course as soon as you open the door the hot outside air is sucked into the room. I don't want to vent co2 out of the room, considering its small size. Would a window AC Unit simply cool and recirculate the grow room air without exchanging air in or out of room (0 exchange rate)?
A) Mike, To answer your question about the energy consumption of these units, yes, they do draw more energy than single hose portable AC units. But these units should not create negative pressure because they are not exchanging any air. This is ideal for trying to run a sealed room where you are implementing CO2 enrichment. As for window AC units, it is my understanding that they can work either way. Some will not exchange air and some will. Also, this 12,0000 BTU unit is designed to cool a room with up to 3,000 watts, so keep this in mind if you are running more lights than that.
